Big weekend ahead.
Tomorrow we’re having a big shindig barbecue. Expecting around 20 people. Tomorrow night we’re all going to the Somerset Patriots game. I love to hear Jim Breuer screaming “SOMERSET PATRIOTS.”
Not sure about Sunday but maybe we’ll just go to Enzo’s for dinner; that’s if the bar isn’t too crowded.
I’m thinking of joining a 60-plus softball team. I’m not sure I can still throw without feeling a stabbing pain in my shoulder. Maybe I’ll just hang on to my youthful memories and not be reminded that with age comes a growing uncoordination.
The week ahead looks good.
Lots of work to do. Interviews with many people. I’ll do them all face to face; I think you get a lot more out of in-person interviews than on the phone. For instance, you can’t see a person’s physical reactions to questions in a phone interview.
Thinking about returning to the synagogue and Judaism. Haven’t had much religion in my life for many, many years. I call myself spiritual but it’s probably just a convenient way to avoid the question of God. And there are plenty of people to talk with and meet at services.
I’ve heard that the St. Patrick’s Day parades have been rescheduled for two weeks. It will be fun. Everybody loves a parade. I like the one in Hackettstown because it eventually ends unlike the Morristown parade which is actually a never-ending loop.
Everybody in the family is healthy although I wish my son would exercise more frequently. That is a losing battle and reminds me of the person who keeps beating his head against a wall and wondering why he gets the same results every time.
I expect I’ll get to the gym tomorrow afternoon.I really enjoy working out and shooting the breeze with the guys and gals I’ve come to know. It’s a special place because everyone is there for a positive reason: to get healthy. And nobody talks politics, thank you.
On Thursday, I have my regular outing at the Manskirts pub in Hackettstown. Six or seven of us meet every other Thursday to talk about everything from Ali’s best fight to Trump, yechhhh.
One Friday a month I play guitar at a meet-up in Hackettstown or Long Valley. There are a few very good musicians and then there’s me. My voice has gotten better over the years but my guitar playing is at about the same level as when I was 16. But it’s fun and nobody is critical of anybody.
It’s all about community. Meeting people, sharing ideas, laughs, worries, sorrows. We are a gregarious species and we need others to show us there is a greater purpose. That is what I need right now.
