When times seem crazy it’s good to realize that times are always crazy; it’s just a matter of degree.
Artists in particular may find it easier to cope in difficult times because they operate on a different level, a level that is disconnected with current reality. Of course, it can always work in the opposite way.
I look to artists to lead me out of the madness and into the light. Sometimes it works and then sometimes, not. I think that these times make no sense, so looking beyond it to a better reality only makes sense.
We’re all artists; just some people are better artists than others. And others don’t know how great they really area.
Here’s what a few smart people had to say about art and life.
Leonado da Vinci: “The artist sees what others only catch a glimpse of.”
Friedrich Nietzsche: “No artist tolerates reality.”
CS Lewis: “In your life, you meet people. Some you never think about again. Some you wonder what happened to them. There are some that you wonder if they ever think about you.And then therer are some you wish you never had to think about again. But you do.”
Alice: “How long is forever?”
White Rabbit: “Sometimes just one second.”
Salvadore Dali: “Have no fear of perfection. You’ll never reach it.”
Alice: “But I nearly forgot. You must close your eyes, otherwise…you won’t see anything.”
Tim Burton from Corpse Bride: “I want to kiss her so passionately and deeply but I’m in a rut. You see it’s hard to give kisses when your mouth is sewn shut.”
Alice: “You’re mad. Bonkers. Off your head…but I’ll tell you a secret…all of the best people are.”
Johnny Depp: “I was always fascinated by people who are considered completely normal because I find them the weirdest of all.”
Aristotle: “There is only one way to a avoid criticism, do nothing, say nothing and be nothing.”
Vincent VanGogh: “Normalcy is a paved road; it’s comfortable to walk but no flowers grow.”
And finally:
Pablo Picasso: “When I haven’t any blue, I use red.”
