Santa and the Tooth Fairy

After you chop off a chicken’s head, the pullet continues to run around madly for a while, oblivious to its fate, the same with a snake if you cut it in half it won’t die immediately but will writhe around for a while and try to bite you before giving up and shuffling off its mortal coil.

Of course, there was “Miracle Mike the Headless Chicken” from Fruita, Color., who lived for 18 months after farmer Lloyd Olswen lopped the head off on Sept. 10, 1954, and kept the headless chicken alive by feeding it through its esophagus.

And rattlesnakes have been known to bite even 45 minutes after having been whacked in half.

I hope Trump is not like Miracle Mike or that dang rattler, although the el presidente’s political head was removed and he was chopped in half while he continues to torture all he can. Trump may not be clucking but he has been tweeting the pants off of Twitter about how poorly he has been treated and how much a victim he is and always was.

So Trump lost the 2020 election by more than 6 million votes and that has been universally verified despite the flood of crazy lawsuits filed by Bone Spurs’ sycophants, including one who sweated a strange brown substance that may or may not have proven that the head of said sycophant is full of shit.

That said, a new poll shows that about half of Republican voters believe Il Duce’s claims that he “rightfully won” his re-election over President-elect Joe Biden. A total of 68 percent of Republicans expressed concern that the election was “rigged,” as Trump has contended, while only 16 percent of Democrats said that was the case.

These people don’t need to be convinced that Trump was robbed, they just have to believe it and facts to the contrary be damned. The ex-president has been masterful in manipulating legions of Republican followers that the deep state, Democrats, socialists, George Soros, the antifa and your next door neighbor have conspired to rig the election. He doesn’t have to have any proof because he’s already convinced the believers that he won. And what’s more, any evidence that Trump did not win is further evidence that he did win because it just shows the depth of the corruption in the election, if you follow my drift and if you do, I feel sorry for you.

It’s like the Tooth Fairy or Santa Claus where kids don’t need any proof of the fairy’s reality or that the big fat guy with the white beard can actually fit down chimneys. The kids believe it because they were told it since they were tiny tots and the beliefs won’t be shaken by such frivolous facts as fat people cannot fit down skinny chimneys or that phantom fairies really do leave quarters under pillows after teeth fall out from young mouths.

There are millions and millions of Americans who voted for Trump and that’s bad enough. But most of those millions have been convinced that the election and democracy were part of a big fix, and that is the real damage that’s been done to our system.

If people have no confidence in elections, then why vote? If Trump, the snake oil salesman supreme, could con much of the country, it makes it that much easier for the next Trump to pull the same stunts, to the detriment of the country and the world. Trump has convinced so many people who may have been of good will in other times, that he was stabbed in the back by his enemies and that’s why he lost the election and that’s why the system and the election results need to be overturned. The would be dictator has essentially convinced millions of people that they should believe nothing that they are told by Democrats and other similar evil doers.

The Germans had a word for it, “dolchstosslegende,” or the “stab-in-the-back myth.” A column in today’s N.Y. Times explains how dolchstosslegende was a major element in the growth of the Germany military after the defeat in World War I. Enough people believed that Germany lost World War I because it was stabbed in the back by enemies within. And that opened the door to the military and ultimately Hitler to purge the nation of its hidden foes.

Columnist Brett Stephens uses a quote from Hanna Arendt to explain how people easily and willingly believe lies and propaganda. In her book, “The Origins of Totalitarianism,” Arendt writes that “Mass Propaganda discovered that its audience was ready at all times to believe the worst, no matter how absurd, and did not particularly object to being deceived because it held every statement to be a lie anyhow.”

And now as Trump is about to evaporate from his perch in the White House, it is imperative that he not be let off the hook for all the crimes he has committed. Allowing him to return to private life unscathed would show that he has truly won in his efforts to dismantle the democratic process and a country that is supposed to be governed by the rule of law.
