Shakespearean Drama in the Trump Family as the Rats Flee Sinking Ship
There are cracks developing in the formerly, iron clad, royal trump family and we can only hope they become gaping fissures.
Most recently, trump has clashed with his daughter, Ivanka, and his son, Donald Jr.
The most recent victim to be thrown under the bus by trump is none other than his daughter, Ivanka, who had the audacity to tell a government panel that she did not believe her father’s big lie that there was mass voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election.
An estimated 20 million viewers tuned in to the prime time hearing by the House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the Capitol, which was led by trump supporters and orchestrated and pushed by the former president as he gasped to overturn the 2020 vote and in-turn, slam a stake in the electoral system, the very heart of democracy.
The House broadcast a clip of testimony by former U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr saying he had repeatedly dismissed the outgoing president’s claims that mass voter fraud had caused him to lose the election. Another excerpt was aired of Ivanka Trump’s interview from April with the committee when she was asked about her reaction to Barr’s assessment.
“It affected my perspective,” Ivanka Trump said. “I respect Attorney General Barr so I accepted what he was saying.”
Trump posted on his on-line, oxymoronic Truth Social site that his daughter was wrong in denouncing his big lie of voter fraud because she had not been looking at election results and “had long since checked out.”
“Ivanka Trump was not involved in looking at, or studying, Election results,” said trump, who has labeled the House inquiry a “WITCH HUNT” and said that his daughter was “only trying to be respectful to Bill Barr and his position as Attorney General (he sucked!).”
The president also called Barr a “coward,” while continuing to insist the election was “rigged.”
Ivanka trump was a presidential adviser in her father’s administration and accompanied him to the explosive rally that he hosted outside the White House when he urged support for a Capitol attack.
Now, trump’s favorite son, Donald Jr., appears to be next in line for an unfortunate bus accident. The internecine friction involves the ex-president’s endorsement of Katie Britt for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate in Alabama. Britt and Rep. Mo Brooks, R-Ala., will face off in a June 21 runoff primary for the GOP nomination for the seat being vacated by Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Ala., who is not running for reelection. Britt was formerly Shelby’s chief of staff.
Trump called Britt “a fearless America First Warrior,” and an “incredible Fighter for the people of Alabama. As President and CEO of Alabama’s Business Council, Katie has been working hard to Grow Alabama’s Economy, Create Jobs, and Restore the Great American Dream.”
“Above all, Katie Britt will never let you down,” Trump wrote, adding, “she has my complete and total endorsement!”
However, previously Brooks had trump’s complete and total endorsement. Trump had previously endorsed and showered Brooks with compliments. A far right winger, Brooks was the first Republican congressman to vote against certifying the 2020 election results on Jan. 6, 2021, in support of trump’s big lie. But trump threw a tantrum and took back his endorsement after Brooks made the mortal sin of suggesting that voters look ahead and not focus on trump’s big lie. Trump also was livid because Brooks was not raising enough campaign funds.
Brooks has been endorsed by assorted right wing nuts, like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., Rep. Barry Moore, R-Ala., Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., Americans for Legal Immigration (ALIPAC), and the National Association for Gun Rights, among others. So far none of those endorsements have been taken back.
In August 2021, trump dismissed Britt as “not in any way qualified” for the Senate and described her as an “assistant” to a “RINO Senator,” referring to Shelby as a “Republican In Name Only.”
At the time, Donald Jr. had called Britt “Alabama’s Liz Cheney,” referring to Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., who is co-chair of the Jan. 6 House committee and found herself atop trump’s enemies list when soon after the Jan. 6 riot, she blasted trump for his role in the attempted coup.
“CNN seems to be very excited about the Alabama Liz Cheney jumping in against MAGA Mo Brooks,” Donald Jr. tweeted shortly after Britt announced her candidacy.
At the time, Brooks said he agreed with the Cheney comparison.
“He’s right! Katie Britt has the financial support of Liz Cheney, Mitt Romney, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski, all of whom voted to impeach Trump!” Brooks said in the far right wing blog and website, National File. “Birds of a feather flock together.”
Donald Jr. also posted his observations in the National File, described by Media bias factcheck.org as an “extreme right Tin-Foil Hat Conspiracy website based on the promotion of unproven/debunked claims and a Strong Pseudoscience purveyor based on using junk science to support claims.”
The site was founded in 2019 by Tom Pappert, who, in 2015, began a viral Facebook page supporting President trump.
“National File publishes conspiracy and pseudoscience-related news stories from an extreme right perspective,” Media Bias Factcheck noted. Articles routinely portray immigrants negatively as “criminals or dangerous.”
Most recently, on June 9, National File reported that the ex-president called the Jan. 6 riot as “the greatest movement in the history of our Country to Make America Great Again.”
“It was about an Election that was Rigged and Stolen, and a Country that was about to go to HELL..& look at our Country now!” Trump added.
The National File also reported that the first Jan. 6 hearing posted “abysmal ratings” as “CBS, ABC and NBC drew a combined 7 million fewer viewers than an average Thursday night.” In fact, the hearings drew more than 20 million viewers, significantly more than the attendance at trump’s 2016 inaugurial.
In endorsing Britt, the ex-president is again showing a weak sport for football. He has endorsed former football star, Hershel Walker, for U.S. Senate for Georgia while Britt is married to Wesley Britt, a 6-foot-8, 300 pound former NFL player.
The ex-president’s endorsement of Britt also clashed with reports in Breitbart News, the far right, pro-trump site that was formerly under Steve Bannon, a former top trump advisor who is fighting a subpoena to testify before the committee investigating Jan. 6.
On March 8, Breitbart’s headline was “Alabama’s Katie Britt Surrounds Herself with Never Trumpers, Allies of Anti-Trump former Sen. Bob Corker.” The story claimed that a fundraiser for Britt was planned by “a long list of establishment Republican ‘Never Trump’ operatives.” The story referred to a fundraiser organized by Kim Kaegi, who has raised money for Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., and former Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., who “repeatedly opposed former President Trump’s ‘America First’ agenda and even suggested that a Republican primary him in his 2020 presidential re-election bid.”
And all these machinations come while the House hearing has shown that trump planned nothing less than to topple the government. Candidates are groveling for trump’s endorsement but it really is question of whether to accept a compliment from the Frankenstein monster or from trump? No brainer, the guy with the big scar across his forehead and the bolts in his neck at least had the capacity to feel sad. The mostly bald guy with the comb-over and the orange skin and the white rings under his eyes is totally remorseless about his plans to wreck out nation.
Apparently Katie Britt doesn’t see it that way as she has gladly accepted trump’s endorsement for U.S. Senate. It’s like Ann Frank accepting a campaign contribution from Herman Goering.
There was a 1959 album of Elvis Presley’s top hits, showing the king in a gold lame suit, famously smirking below the words, “50 million Elvis fans can’t be wrong.” Let’s hope that holds true for the 21 million Americans who tuned in for the first televised hearing by the House committee investigating the Jan.6, 2021, attacks, in hopes of incarcerating trump.
