Some Really, Really Important Stuff

Is That All You Have

This should be filed under the “get a life” section or maybe the “Republicans in search of an issue, any issue at all” or possibly “creating something from thin air” section or “woke, woke, woke” which would be filed right next to the Dr. Seuss and Sesame Street scandals, oh my.

Why bother talking about substantial issues like the economy, the pandemic, climate change, race based discrimination, unfair treatment by law enforcement of African Americans, wage disparity, disproportionate wealth, tax revision, campaign finance, national defense spending, health care costs, infrastructure, education?

These are complex issues that Republicans would rather not consider and hope that their base is equally uninterested. Instead, the GOP plan is not promote, promote, promote but rather attack, attack, attack the Democrats on anything and everything, including their alleged support for Intafa; their radical left, communist agenda; their push to ban Christmas and prayer; their support for pedophile baby eaters; failure to stop rampant unchecked dangerous aliens; failure to curb skyrocketing crime; promoting abortion on demand for anyone; moving to defund law enforcement; committing rampant election fraud; supporting transgender athletes, including allowing transgender people in bathrooms.

The latest manufactured outrage that is getting saturation coverage from conservative news outlets across the nation is whether the Democrats plan to end Mother’s Day and replace it with “Birthing People’s Day,” God forbid. The kerfuffle started after Rep. Cori Bush, D-Mo., tweeted the term “birthing people,” in the context of medical challenges faced by “Black birthing people.” She later said the term is designed to be more inclusive of transgender people, including transgender men and gender-nonconforming people who also give birth.

Rep. Ayanna Pressley. D-Mass., later also used the term “birthing people” in her reintroduction of the Maximizing Outcomes for Moms through Medicaid Improvement and Enhancement of Service Act with the nifty acronym (MOMMIES), which seeks to expand Medicaid coverage for pregnant people. That should be the real news, that efforts are underway to improve health coverage for pregnant people.

Referring to pregnant people as “birthing people” is not new at a time when sexuality and gender definitions are changing. The phrase has become more common and was reflected in a panel run by the Harvard Medical School’s postgraduate program that used the term “pregnant and birthing people.” President Biden also included the term in his $6 trillion federal-budget proposal.

But as far as any move to end and rename Mother’s Day, it doesn’t exist but that doesn’t stop the GOP from saying the plan is very real and is yet another effort in the continuing sinful Democratic drive to destroy the very fiber of the country.

The fact that the government plans to rename Mother’s Day is pure fantasy didn’t get in the way of the right wing media. Laura Ingraham of Fox News tweeted “Democrats replace ‘women’ with ‘birthing people.’” Newsmax TV host Steve Cortes tweeted “This upcoming Sunday is no longer Mothers Day, it’s Birthing Peoples’ Day.” Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas tweeted a picture in which “Mother’s” was erased and replaced by “Birthing People’s.”

Republicworld.com, a right wing Indian (south Asian) news channel, reported that the “Biden Admin Replaces ‘mothers’ With ‘birthing People.’”

The Washington Times reported that “President Biden’s $6 trillion federal-budget proposal had plenty of surprises, including the use of the trendy ‘woke’ term ‘birthing people.’”

Townhall.com’s headline: “Biden Replaces Women with ‘Birthing People’ in Woke 2022 Budget.” The conservative outlet goes on to note that “‘Birthing people’ (along with its related term ‘chest feeder’) is nonsense leftist gobbledygook that’s used to signal tolerance because, of course, saying that women are the exclusive source of children is exclusionary. Or something. Biology means nothing, science is out the window, and to argue otherwise makes you a terrible person, or so leftists — and exceedingly more Democrats including the President of the United States — say.”

The federalist.com headline was “Biden To Mothers: You’re ‘Birthing People.’”

“In addition to costing taxpayers $6 trillion, President Joe Biden’s 2022 budget proposal insults women all across the country by replacing the term ‘mother’ with ‘birthing people,’” the website noted. “Just like swapping out the term ‘breastfeeding’ for ‘chestfeeding,’ the left’s terminology is not just about eradicating certain words but eventually eradicating the uniqueness of a mother’s experience.”

Americanthinker.com called the matter “more than insanity. This is fresh evidence that the left is killing the Democrat Party. What do we call fathers? Sperm contributors? No one called me that on Father’s Day.”

So you the reader can decide if use of the term “birthing people” is a deal-breaker, the last straw, the final insult, the final indignity, provocation and match in the powder barrel that will cause Democrats to shift to Republicans so they can stop this drumbeat and erosion of everything that is good.
