The Secret Colonoscopy

And What Did It Show

I am not going to stoop so low, get down in the gutter, reach for the cheap comments or compromise my high ethical standards and make fun of trump because he claims to have had a colonoscopy without an anesthesia.

That is one area where I draw the line and I will not concede my journalistic principles just because it is trump. I will not.

But really, who believes that Gen. Bone Spurs had the old scope up his you know where without anesthesia and believe me I know because I have been there and I would rather have splinters under my fingernails than to have the procedure with no pain relief. Actually, it’s rather bizarre to think of going through it without anesthesia, I mean, the anesthesia is available for a reason beyond simply eliminating pain because the more important reason is that under the anesthesia the patient will not move and potentially cause even greater internal harm while the scope does its dirty deed. And this was the President of the United States.

Stephanie Grisham, former trump press secretary, says in her new book, “I’ll Take Your Questions Now,” that trump refused anesthesia and kept the procedure quiet for a series of reasons, including to avoid being the “butt of jokes” of the late night comedian circuit and that would have been worth the price of the admission to hear what Stephen Colbert’s writers would have come up with. Another reason, Grisham writes, is that the last thing on earth that trump wanted to do was to be under the anesthesia and temporarily give up his dictatorial power and hand over the reigns of government to Vice President Mike Pence. That makes sense but what would Pence have done in those few hours, other than demand that all Americans convert to Christianity.

I lose count of the many trump press secretaries of lies but I think Grisham was the one who said she would never lie, which is not only impossible under trump but would not be tolerated for even a second by trump.

I also doubt it mostly because trump has never impressed me as having a high pain tolerance, in fact, his pain tolerance is probably directly disproportional to the amount of pain he has caused others, which is a whole lot. Seriously, it would have been nice to know if any cancer was found during the scope’s tour of the insides of the man with bad hair who by the way had his hand on the nuclear trigger. But we weren’t told a thing. And beyond that, trump could have used the situation to bring attention to the need for a colonoscopy to avoid colon cancer. But no, instead the ex-dictator wannabe kept it quiet because he chose silence so he wouldn’t be viewed as weak and so he wouldn’t have to give up power, even for a few hours, rather than take the situation to possibly issue a deadly serious comment about cancer. I know he was terribly pro-active in the COVID-19 battle and he used every opportunity to urge all to wear masks, keep safe distances and eventually to get the vaccinations, so it surprises me that he would have such little interest in public health and cancer. Ha Ha Ha.

In case you’re not familiar with the wonderful medical procedure, a colonoscopy is the endoscopic examination of the large bowel and the distal part of the small bowel with a CCD camera or a fiber optic camera on a flexible tube passed through the anus. It can provide a visual diagnosis for instance, of ulceration and polyps, and it gives the doctor the opportunity for biopsy or removal of suspected colorectal cancer lesions.

Trump really loved being in front of the camera on his wildly successful show “The Apprentice,” at least he called it wildly successful, so you would think he would just jump at the chance to have an internal reality show.

Lastly, as Grisham writes in the book, “as with COVID, he was too wrapped up in his own ego and his own delusions about his invincibility.” That I can believe.

I would love to believe Grisham but she has a few credibility issues of her own and add to that anyone who would be hired by trump and agree to work for trump had to be heavily ethics-compromised.

Grisham, 45, was the 32nd White House press secretary and White House communications director from July 2019 to April 2020. Previously, she was Chief of Staff and Press Secretary for the first lady, Melania Trump, from 2020 to 2021.

As Press Secretary, she was the first White House press secretary in American history to hold no press conferences, instead she held interviews on conservative news outlets. She resigned on Jan. 6, 2021, after the Capitol was stormed by pro-trump forces.

Before moving to Washington, Grisham was the spokeswoman for AAA Arizona in 2007, but that didn’t last because she was fired within a year after being accused of cheating on expense reports. She was fired again from a subsequent job at ad agency, Mindspace, over plagiarism charges, as she allegedly copied AAA material verbatim into her client’s web page.

Then there was the complaint filed by the U.S. Office of Special Counsel who said Grisham had violated the Hatch Act by using her official Twitter account to tweet out trump’s campaign slogan. She got a nasty warning letter but wasn’t otherwise punished.

In July 2019, Grisham replaced Sarah Sanders as White House press secretary and White House communications director, with an annual salary of $183,000.

On Sept. 23, 2019, she was on the Fox & Friends show and was asked by the hosts if the White House planned to resume its daily press briefing. “Not right now… I mean, ultimately, if the president decides that it’s something we should do, we can do that, but right now he’s doing just fine. And to be honest, the briefings have become a lot of theater. And I think that a lot of reporters were doing it to get famous. I mean, yeah, they’re writing books now. I mean, they’re all getting famous off of this presidency. And so, I think it’s great what we’re doing now,” Grisham said, further destroying her faltering credibility.

Moving right along, on Oct. 24, 2019, again on Fox & Friends, Grisham defended Trump’s description of “Never Trump Republicans” as “Human scum.” Grisham said trump need not apologize because, “It is horrible that people are working against a president who is delivering results for this country and has been since day one. And, the fact that people continue to try to negate anything he’s been trying to do and take away from the good work he’s doing on behalf of the American people, they deserve strong language like that.”

On Oct.26, 2019, she responded to criticism of trump leveled by his former chief of staff, Gen. John F. Kelly (Ret.) “I worked with John Kelly,” Grisham said, “and he was totally unequipped to handle the genius of our President.”

She said on Nov. 13, 2019, that the impeachment inquiry against trump was a “sham hearing” that is “not only boring, it is a colossal waste of taxpayer time and money.”

And then there was that drunk driving charge on Jan. 9, 2013, when she failed a field sobriety test although she claimed she hadn’t been drinking but had taken a Xanax90 and a Zoloft the prior night. The blood test showed she had a blood alcohol level of .105 percent. Let’s see, Grisham also was found to be driving with a license suspended for a traffic citation and in Aug. 2014, she pleaded guilty to reckless driving.

So there are these credibility issues but at least I steered clear of the bottom-feeding journalism.
