Think Happy
Three months ago, it was all Trump, all the time.
Trump this, Trump that, Trump this, Trump that.
Now its all COVID-19, all the time. COVID-19 this, COVID-19 that, COVID-19 this, COVID-19 that.
Why do we perseverate and usually about bad things? And why not perseverate over nice things like puppies and sunrises and babies and song birds. Why not think babies, babies, babies or puppies, puppies, puppies?
I’ll tell you why. It’s because perseverate is from the word “persevere” and we think that magically, if we think about something bad for long enough, it will get better. That worked well with Trump as I believe he has found God and is now the icon of worldly perfection and goodness. And COVID-19 has magically gone away, probably because Trump had a hunch.
So what is going on? I do know that people on the autism spectrum often perseverate over the strangest things, like whether they can have another coffee or what time will the sun set.
So maybe we all are on the spectrum. What vaccine did you have? Just kidding. You anti-vaxers are as loopey as a bad song.
Which gets me to the point of this blog, if there is a point. That would be that bad thoughts and actions promote bad thoughts and actions and vice versa. When people are locked in a spiral of hate and negativity, they find it very hard to acknowledge their imprisonment or unhappiness, let along escape.
And it has been proven that practicing good thoughts leads to healthier living and fewer supporters of Trump. I wager you’d find very few Buddhists for Trump although that would be an interesting set-up at a Trump rally.
When I think about it, Trump is a mantra of sorts to his lemmings. I can see his legions, sitting cross legged on an giant patchwork of American flags and Trump-Pence 2020 flags, eyes closed, deep in meditation, chanting Trump, Trump, Trump and then going off the cliff.
But there is another point. People like people. If you take a bunch of people and blindfold them in a room for a week, it’s likely that they will get together rather than find ways to hate each other. Maybe that is the trick. We already use face masks. Let’s add blindfolds although many would argue that Trumpers already wear blindfolds.
Maybe we can put all the Trumpers in a room, blindfolded and find if they move toward love and not hate. Wait. We already have that at Trump rallies where the followers love their man.
It could be worse. I could be perserverating over Mitch McConell or Linday Graham or Kevin McCarthy or Steve Scalise or John Thune or Martha McSally or Kelly Loeffler or Marsha Blackburn or Ted Cruz or Brett Kavanaugh or Cory Gardner or Joni Ernst or Lamar Alexander.
Help.
